An incident without consequence between Daniel Theis, Dennis Schröder and Gordon Herbert

Tempers flared on the German bench at the start of the game against Slovenia yesterday, and the scene was captured by the cameras, undoubtedly offering more resonance than the situation would have deserved.

We thus see Gordon Herbert trying to speak during a time-out while Dennis Schröder and Daniel Theis have a lively exchange, which forces the coach to grab the leader by the shoulder to ask him to sit down. The latter then asked his coach to calm down.

“No, you don’t tell me what to do, I have a time out”then retorted Gordon Herbert, while the player warned his coach not to touch him in this way again…

The protagonists were logically questioned about this little fact of the match after the meeting. “I just think Daniel and Dennis were talking about their memories together at Braunschweig (the two players’ training club)”, preferred to joke Gordon Herbertkeen to put things into perspective, even if he still took out the two players in stride and assured that the problem would be dealt with “in-house”.

A heat stroke that had the desired effect

Dennis Schröder confided a little more, and also wanted to calm things down to play down this beginning of the incident. A simple tense exchange between two players who know each other perfectly in a delicate moment.

“I mean basketball is an emotional sport. It’s a series sport, and you have to know how to stay cool. Daniel and I have known each other for a long time, since we were 12 or 13 years old. We had these kinds of moments when we were young, but it always helped us to raise our level of play.he explained. “That’s what happened today. We had a fight and I said to him, ‘Look, here’s what you have to do, and you can tell me the same thing’. Of course, he will get a little upset. It will itch a bit, but he will give his best. I think that’s what happened.”

Better still, the whole team raised their heads after this failed first quarter, to the point of marching on Slovenia during the following three periods in order to win without trembling. Dennis Schröder for his part achieved another big performance with 24 points and 10 assists, while Daniel Theis totaled 14 points and 7 rebounds.

“He helped us a lot defensively and offensively, and we won against one of the best teams in the World Cup”concluded Dennis Schröder.

The affair has undoubtedly taken on these proportions because all eyes have been on Dennis Schröder since his exit against Maxi Kleber before the start of the World Cup, which led to the withdrawal of the interior of the Mavs.
