If he has been more or less installed in the Clippers rotation for several years, Amir Coffey has reached a milestone at his level this season. He averages 10.1 points at 46% success at 3-points and 24 minutes per match. These three figures being his career bests.
Latest example: he scored 18 points against the Magic, notably taking the place of Norman Powell (injured) in the major five. “It feels good. I try not to focus too much on my minutes or being a starter or substitute. I especially try to do my job when I am called”, he comments.
Certainly, but why is this scheme working so well this season? “I shoot when I’m open,” he replies. “I try to be in the right spacing for my teammates to find me. Tyronn Lue gives everyone the green light to be aggressive, so it makes things easier for everyone. Everyone can shoot and be aggressive. Against Orlando, it was my match. The next one will be someone else's. »

Amir Coffey still offers a more precise answer. If he has so many good shots and displays this success, it's because the Clippers have “a player like James Harden who manages to create a lot for himself and for others”. “He attracts two-man catches, so it opens things up for the others”he adds.
As Norman Powell is still bothered by his hamstring, the winger should start again in the major five this Friday evening against the Kings. More good news for a player who has experienced the G-League and is therefore benefiting even more from this successful first month.
“The G-League is not easy. So to have passed this obstacle and reached this point, it means a lot,” he says before returning to the mental aspect of his first seasons. “It's really about mentality, not being too hard on yourself and having been there and back in the G-League. First of all, it’s work. You have to work, keep the confidence and, when you are called, then do things and hope that an opportunity presents itself.
