All-Star Game 2025: New details on the four-team tournament

ESPN confirms that the 2025 All-Star Game will mark a real break in the history of the event since the NBA has decided to transform Sunday evening into a four-team tournament! According to our colleagues, the two semi-finals will be played to the best of 40 points, while the final will be shorter with a score of 25 points to reach.

For the composition of the four teams, nothing has yet been decided, but the NBA was considering three teams made up of eight All-Stars, or the usual 24 players. For the 4th team, the league considered choosing the winning team of the Rising Stars.

A broader 3-point contest

NBA executives discussed the new format Friday with the “competition committee” made up of owners, executives, players, coaches and players' union members. Consulted Stephen Curry, whose Warriors will host All-Star Weekend, was joined by several All-Stars to brainstorm new formats and ideas.

We know that there will be a new edition of the 3-point contest between an NBA star and a WNBA star. The rematch between Stephen Curry and Sabrina Ionescu is still on the table, but the NBA is considering opening it up to other players like Klay Thompson and Caitlin Clark.
