All-Star Game 2024 | LeBron James holder, captain and only record holder

Following on from last week's third score, LeBron James (West) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (East) finish at the top of the votes designating the holders of the All-Star Game 2024, the 73rd in history. Fans accounted for 50% of the vote, while players and media weighed in at 25% each.

This means that, as in 2019, 2020 and 2023, the winger of the Lakers and the interior of the Bucks will be captains of a team, that is to say that of their conference, because we remember that the NBA has decided to return to the old formula with an opposition between East and West. There will therefore no longer be an All-Star Draft, where the two most popular players constituted their own squad without taking into account the conferences of each All-Star.

For the little anecdote, let us specify that the “King” becomes the only holder of the number of selections in the All-Star Game, winning his 20th star this year, one more than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Stephen Curry and Trae Young on the sidelines

Next Sunday, February 18, on the Indianapolis side, LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo will obviously not be the only ones to be on the floor of Bankers Life Fieldhouse during the jump ball, since they will each be accompanied by four other players in the five.

In the West, “LBJ” will be surrounded by the reigning Finals MVP Nikola Jokic (6th selection), Kevin Durant (14th selection), Luka Doncic (5th selection) and finally Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (2nd selection), preferred to Stephen Curry and who will at best “only” be a replacement, no less!

In the East, the “Greek Freak” (8th selection) will be supported by the reigning MVP Joel Embiid (7th selection), Jayson Tatum (5th selection), Tyrese Haliburton (2nd selection) and finally his own teammate Damian Lillard (8th selection), ultimately preferred to Trae Young, Donovan Mitchell or even Jalen Brunson.

As a reminder, the announcement of the replacements will come next Thursday and they will be chosen by the 30 coaches of the league.
