All-Star Game 2024: LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo dominate the votes

Fifteen days after the opening of votes for the 2024 All-Star Game, the NBA unveils a first scoreand we find the usual LeBron James (Lakers) at the top of the poll in the West, and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks) for the East. In other words, the captains of the 2019, 2020 and 2023 editions.

If the votes remained there, it would be Stephen Curry (Warriors), Nikola Jokic (Nuggets), Luka Doncic (Mavericks) and Kevin Durant (Suns) who would accompany LeBron to the West. We note that Victor Wembanyama is very far in the poll with some 200,000 votes, and an 8th place in the Froncourt category.

In the East, Antetokounmpo is ahead of Joel Embiid (Sixers), Jayson Tatum (Celtics), Tyrese Haliburton (Pacers) and Damian Lillard (Bucks). Only Trae Young (Hawks) seems able to shake things up, as the gaps are significant between the Top 5 and the rest of the players.

The return to the East versus West formula

As a reminder, votes will close on January 20, and the All-Star Game will take place in Indianapolis on February 18. Players and media will then join fans to choose their own All-Stars. Fans will represent 50% of the vote, while current players and the media panel will weigh 25% each. The replacements will, for their part, be selected by the 30 coaches.

A pivotal edition since the NBA has decided to return to the old formula with an opposition between the East and the West. There will no longer be an All-Star Draft, with two captains who composed their squads without taking into account the conferences of each All-Star.
