Alex Sarr in full progress

Second choice of the Draft, Alex Sarr has found its cruising speed for a month, and its clumsiness from the summer league and the start of the season is only a distant memory. Since November 22, the Wizards' interior has been shooting at 46%, including 43% from 3-point range. This address behind the arc is all the more interesting as he takes around five winning shots per game.

During the first month of the regular season, and after 14 matches, this same Sarr nevertheless posted very mediocre percentages: 35.0% on shots, including 19.7% on 3-pointers. “Alex takes good shots, and those are shots we wanted him to take and he doesn’t hesitate”, appreciates his coach Brian Keefe. “ Some people hesitate when they don't hit their shots. This was not the case for him. That’s one of the things we learned about him is his mental toughness. When things don't go well, it doesn't affect him. He continues to move forward and it's pretty impressive. »

His address benefits the whole team

Proof that he is making full progress, Sarr has just completed December at 13.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 blocks per game in 28 minutes. “I take the same number of 3-point shots, and I would just say that the shots are going in… Whether those shots were going in or not in the first month, I continued to take them” explains Sarr. “I feel like shooting better from 3-point opens the floor up more for me.”

Even if he is not as greedy as Victor Wembanyama, Sarr is one of those pivots of 2m15 and above who appreciates shooting from afar, and that also opens up the game for all his teammates. “The hotter he is and the better he shoots, the more teams will have to respect him and take that into account. This opens the way for other players”explains Cory Kispert. “It’s good for Alex because he’s making shots and it’s good for us because it gets the bigs out of the paint, it opens up a lot more space for guys to penetrate.” They are aware that they cannot let the ball go to Alex because he will punish them.”
