Al Horford will start the Celtics season well as a backup

This isn’t really a surprise because Joe Mazzulla was leaning toward starting Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis to start the Celtics season.

A choice that Al Horford confirmed since the 37-year-old interior revealed that he would be a substitute this evening in New York.

“We have a lot of density and talented players”he explained recently. “One of the strengths of our team is its versatility. There will be times when we will play big, others when we will play small. This is how. I think we can all have a positive impact on the game. As far as I’m concerned, I’m in a good position. »

For Boston, the option makes sense since we must not pull the string too quickly with the Dominican, who will begin his 17th season in the NBA. Especially since it densifies the rotation inside, behind Kristaps Porzingis.

Nevertheless, Al Horford started 1,003 of the 1,013 games he played in the NBA, coming off the bench only during his very early career in Atlanta, and during his complicated stint in Philadelphia.

For Jayson Tatum, his teammate does the “ultimate sacrifice” by accepting this role, even though he had always been a starter until then with the Celtics jersey on his back (340 games).

“If Al comes off the bench, at this stage of his career, no one should be able to complain about being substituted, being taken out by Joe Mazzulla or not finishing a game”the winger already recalled a few days ago. “Everyone has to think first about the team and our mission. »
