Al Horford now a replacement for the Celtics?

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown plus rookies Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. These are the four indisputable starters for the Celtics. Who will be the fifth: Derrick White or Al Horford?

When the first four were aligned during the preseason, that is to say during the last two matches, Joe Mazzulla gave priority to Derrick White. Although it should be noted that, against Charlotte, Al Horford did not play.

A decision which could be confirmed in the regular season, and which the 37-year-old completely understands.

“We have a lot of density and talented players,” he says to MassLive. “One of the strengths of our team is its versatility. There will be times when we will play big, others when we will play small. This is how. I think we can all have a positive impact on the game. As far as I’m concerned, I’m in a good position. »

Seeing Derrick White enter the major five in place of Al Horford would not be illogical either.

The latter would undoubtedly benefit from playing less, in order to save himself for important moments and the playoffs, and his contribution could ultimately be more useful coming off the bench, and more reliable than that of Luke Kornet or Neemias Queta, in particular blow Kristaps Porzingis.

“If Al comes off the bench, at this stage of his career, no one should be able to complain about being substituted, being taken out by Joe Mazzulla or not finishing a game,” delivers Jayson Tatum, who thus salutes the gesture of his teammate. “Everyone has to think first about the team and our mission. »
