Al Ahly, new champion of the Basketball Africa League

By winning 80-65 against AS Douanes in the final of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) on Saturday in Kigali, Al Ahly became the 3rd champion in the history of this league. Spaniard Agusti Julbe thus became the first coach to win the trophy twice after his triumph with Zamalek in 2021. South Sudanese Nuni Omot, seen at the Knicks during the preseason, wins the Hakeem Olajuwon award of the best player of the tournament thanks to his 22 points scored in the final.

Second in the Nile Conference which was played from April 26 to May 6, Al Ahly (Egypt) had only one defeat in the group stage against Petro de Luanda, and he managed the feat of winning the title from his first participation. For its part, AS Douanes had won the Sahara conference held in Dakar, and they had taken out US Monastir (Tunisia), the defending champion.

The BAL also elected its five of the year, and alongside Omot, we find Jean-Jacques Boissy (AS Douanes), Chris Crawford (AS Douanes), Aliou Diarra (Stade Malien) and Dane Miller Jr. (SLAC ).
