A'ja Wilson sets WNBA single-season scoring record!

It was expected, and A'ja Wilson set the WNBA single-season points record against the Indiana Fever!

After missing her game against the New York Liberty to treat her ankle, her first since 2019, the center picked up where she left off, with 27 points (11/28 shooting), 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. It was at the end of the first half that she scored the basket that allowed her to surpass the 939 points scored by Jewell Loyd last year.

A tribute to her teammates

“It's great because now people can stop talking about it.” she commented after the meeting. “I felt like it was dragging on and on and on, so I'm glad we did it.”

Because A'ja Wilson does not consider this record, certainly helped by the increase in the number of games played during WNBA campaigns, as an individual accomplishment.

“I don’t want to sound cliché when I say this, but I wouldn’t be able to do anything if I didn’t have all my teammates. And I’m so grateful to be able to play with such selfless women. They give it their all every day, they’re pure, and that’s what I appreciate the most.”she added, on the verge of tears. “My teammates are the beating of my heart, they keep me going.”

The best player in the world

Facing the Indiana Fever of Caitlin Clark (16 points at 6/22), it was still A'ja Wilson who seemed to move her team forward. After a 7-0 run to start, it was she who brought her team back to half distance.

Before the contribution of the bench, and in particular the duo Alysha Clark – Tiffany Hayes (26 points in total at 7/10 from afar) allowed the double reigning champions to take control of the match (86-75).

In great form recently, Indiana has not let go but, behind their “franchise player”, the Las Vegas Aces have never really trembled…

“One day she’s not going to be here anymore. She’s going to retire and live her life and people are going to marvel at what she’s been able to do. And I tell them to marvel right now. It’s really impressive. And what she’s done consistently, since day one of this season, there’s no doubt who the best player in the world is.” This is how Caitlin Clark could conclude after the meeting.
