AJ Griffin motivated by his move to the Rockets

Three weeks after his transfer, AJ Griffin is already wearing the Rockets colors since he is in Las Vegas, for the Summer League. A way to get started before an important season for him, already to bounce back after his last more than average season in Atlanta and also because his last year of contract (2025/26) is optional. It is the Houston franchise that will have the last word.

“I have things to prove: it's my state of mind. It's a motivation to prove that we have our place in the league”, he explains. “It’s a new city, new teammates… I’m having fun here, it’s nice to play together.”

The winger has not yet really shone in the summer league, with 10.5 points on average after two games, while being clumsy (30% shooting success). Nevertheless, he sees these games as a ” good opportunity “ not only for him but for the “young people who arrive to create an alchemy”.

His coach hopes to see him be more aggressive, which will be necessary in the NBA next, because he is coming off a failed season, while his first was interesting. The emergence of Jalen Johnson, the arrival of Quin Snyder on the bench and his low playing time explain this season finished with only 2.4 points on average.

“I had a feeling I was going to be transferred. I never let it affect me. I'm going to keep working, I have a chance, a new start”he notes. “Houston is a team that wants me and that's the most important thing.”
