Voted MVP of the All-Star Game for the first time in his career, for his eighth appearance, Stephen Curry set Cleveland on fire with 50 points in the big game on Sunday night. But the three-time champion and two-time MVP has a much more important, and obvious, goal this season: he wants to get back to the playoffs!
After two seasons missing the “postseason” train, Stephen Curry was certainly able to take advantage of a season to heal his physical glitches, and the last campaign to regain his full rhythm. But this year, there’s no question of watching the playoffs on TV as Klay Thompson finally made his long-awaited comeback.
“We made five Finals in a row and then we had two more complicated seasons in the last two years”he recalls inThe Athletic. “I miss the playoffs! We were just talking about it in the locker room [durant le All-Star Game]. Everyone thinks they can play for the title, if all goes well, especially the guys who are there… But we also understand how difficult it is to get there. I miss this fight. It would also be meaningful to get there again now, after all these years. “
Arrive in shape at the important moment
The concern is that the Warriors are not on a good dynamic. Already limits last year, and for once too fair to pass the “play-in” against the long-toothed Grizzlies, the Dubs have clearly dropped a tone since the back injury of Draymond Green. Without its defensive captain, Golden State is at 13 wins for 9 defeats, when they had started the season on a high with 29 wins for 8 defeats…
“All we can do is control what is in our control. We’ve done pretty well so far. We had a lot of injuries and we didn’t have our full squad for a very long time. When Klay came back, Draymond got hurt! We are still waiting to be all three able to play at the same time. “
With a new trio of All-Stars, with Andrew Wiggins replacing the returning Klay Thompson, the Warriors have a solid roster to contend with the best teams in the Western Conference.
“But it’s taking shape to try to get to our best shape at the important moment,” concludes Stephen Curry with a smile. “We hope that Draymond will come back quickly. We still have Wise [James Wiseman] which is on the back burner, ready to make an appearance this year, and after that we’ll have to find our rotations to get to the best part of the season. But to be part of this conversation, and after the two years that we’ve been through, I feel rejuvenated and eager to find this atmosphere again. [des playoffs]. “
