Briefly seen on the side of the Blazers lately for snippets of playing time, two years ago, Harry Giles is trying a comeback in the NBA!
After two empty seasons, including an inconclusive experience on the side of the G-League with the Agua Caliente Clippers, he was part, with Dion Waiters and Ben McLemore, of a group of former players who organized a workout to show themselves in the eyes of the NBA franchises, on the sidelines of the Las Vegas summer league.
“I did a season in Portland and I had this experience with the Clippers but apart from that, I went back to the gym. I worked hard to rebuild my body and I hope I can get a new opportunity [en NBA] »he explains for Fox40.
The video of his training in Vegas has already caused a lot of talk, including his great pal from the Duke era, Jayson Tatum, which has not failed to start rumors on the side of Boston. But, after a new injury and personal problems that made him put things into perspective, Harry Giles wants above all to find the top level.
“It’s hard to accept because injury problems have plagued me”
“Sometimes certain thoughts come to pollute my brain but overall, I keep the faith. For me, it’s mostly about unfortunate injuries. I certainly had one or two problems in the NBA but I’m still only 25 and I’m being judged. It’s hard to accept because there are injury problems that have plagued me. It’s difficult at any age, but even more so at 25. I just want to get back to the game, that’s all I think about anyway. »
At 25, and after serious cruciate ligament injuries in both knees, he hopes to be able to put his physical problems in the rearview mirror once and for all, to try to integrate into an NBA workforce.
“Often the questions I’m asked are whether I’m healthy, whether my body is okay. That’s why I wanted to do this workout: to show all the scouts that I’m in good shape. I’m moving well, I’m fully recovered. I learned from my past mistakes, I know better how to maintain my body. »
It remains to be seen if that will be enough, while the former high school phenomenon (ESPN ranked him as the best high school student on the circuit in 2016…) has been plagued by knee injuries since his adolescence.
