After the Jontay Porter affair, bookmakers limit bets on players with precarious contracts

Following the affair Jontay Porterwho had pretended to be injured to validate bets on failed performances on his part, the NBA discussed with American bookmakers during the summer.

First measurement ? The main bookmakers (FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, ESPN BET and Caesars Sportsbook) will not offer “under” bets this season on players on “two-way contracts” or signed via ten-day contracts, i.e. – to say that we cannot bank on the failed performances of these players with precarious contracts.

The idea is obviously that players with traditional contracts have too much to lose by tampering with their performance, and that the risks therefore come more from players whose place in the NBA is not assured.

Moreover, Jontay Porter had a “two-way contract” when he decided to tamper with his performances.

Michael Porter Jr.'s brother was subsequently banned from the league, with Adam Silver explaining that it was the “capital sin” for the NBA. And the “commissioner” would like not to have to manage other cases like this…
