After the emotion, time for reflection at the Warriors to replace Bob Myers

“In summary, the job I do, and I would say the same for any GM or coach, requires constant commitment, constant effort, 100%. And if you can’t do it, then don’t continue. This is my answer to the question: “Why?” “. I can’t do that to our players, I can’t do that to Joe (Lacob) and Peter (Guber). And I can’t do that to myself.” It is with these words that Bob Myers explained the reasons for his choice to withdraw from his position as basketball president and GM of the Warriors, during a press conference that he ended with tears in his eyes.

At his side, the owner Joe Lacob regretted the decision of the main architect of the success of his franchise, he who did not know how to find the words or the levers to encourage him to continue the adventure.

“There is no question for me of telling you that I understand, because I do not understand”, did he throw after having thanked his collaborator for all of his work. “But it’s not for me to understand why. I just want him to be happy”.

No replacement for Bob Myers before the Draft?

Joe Lacob did not pour out on the face of who could be his successor, while Mike Dunleavy Jr and his son, Kirk Lacob, both assistants to Myers, would hold the rope.

“I would say that we have a very strong organization and there is a good chance that it will be an internal candidate. But we haven’t made a decision yet, so we can’t really give an answer. We will work on it”.

Joe Lacob added that Bob Myers would go until the end of his contract, which will expire at the end of June. It is probably only after the Draft that things will begin to settle down on this subject, and that a formalization should take place.

“We will make a decision as soon as possible, but I want to make sure we make the right decision. If it’s in a month, so much the better.” continued Joe Lacob. “We will make this decision in a natural way, following the right process. I think we’re preparing for draft and free agency and all those things, and we’ll be ready when the time comes.”

Asked about the prospect of Mike Dunleavy Jr replacing him, Bob Myers simply replied: ” He’s a good GM, and if he wants it, it will be great “.
