A second statue of Kobe Bryant is to be unveiled this Friday

The second statue in a series of three paying tribute to Kobe Bryant should be unveiled today in front of the Lakers' arena. A first statue had already been unveiled six months ago. The latter paid tribute to the 81-point game of the “Black Mamba”.

The first of the three Kobe Bryant statues did not go unnoticed, and had even been retouched, since typographical errors had been spotted on the base, where the match sheet is engraved. The name of Jose Calderon had notably been misspelled to “Jose Calderson”.

The second statue will represent Kobe Bryant and his daughter “Gigi”, both of whom died in the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of seven other people four years ago. As with the first of the three statues unveiled on February 8, the inauguration date is not insignificant. August 2 (02/08/24) plays on the jersey numbers worn by Bryant with the Lakers, 8 and 24, and on the number 2 worn by his daughter, Gianna.

A final statue should be unveiled during the next season, according to ESPNThis time, it will feature Kobe wearing the Lakers' number 24.
