A sad record for the Pistons

The Pistons had already experienced streaks of 14 consecutive losses, in 1979/80, 1993/94 and 2021/22. By losing to the Wizards, Monty Williams’ troop had therefore equaled this franchise “record”.

But by losing to the Lakers, Cade Cunningham and his teammates broke this sad record…

“This group has a problem with adversity” blurted Monty Williams. “We train, there is a state of mind in the locker room but every time we encounter adversity at the start of a match, you can see the team cowering. Sometimes we wait to get by on offense when we should be doing it on defense. »

Above all, while Detroit was often in the match at the start of this series of losses, the team has just suffered four very big defeats in the last five outings. -26 against the Lakers, -19 against the Wizards, -23 against the Pacers and -29 against the Raptors. The sign of a group that is giving up.

“For me, the message is not going to change. We will continue to fight, to struggle. We played all possible defenses tonight. Drop, zone, blitz. The message is: we have to fight, we have to hang on and we have to get back the feeling we had during the first week of the season. We need to find this” continues Monty Williams.

But the feeling of this first week, with two victories in three games, already seems far away.

With this series of 15 consecutive losses, the Pistons (2-16) are now firmly anchored in last place in the East, and even in the league, while the calendar until the end of the year is not not easy (New York, Cleveland, Memphis, Orlando, Indiana, Philadelphia x2, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Utah, Brooklyn x2, Boston and Toronto).
