A rare event in the NBA: a 100% rookie major five for the Blazers!

A real generational shock. Deprived of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray during their trip to Portland, the Nuggets started Reggie Jackson and DeAndre Jordan alongside their three other usual members of the five. THE Blazersthey faced an even greater shortage of executives: Anfernee Simons, Jerami Grant, Deandre Ayton, Shaedon Sharpe and Malcolm Brogdon were all on the sidelines.

Result, Chauncey Billups was original by completing his five with Scoot Henderson, Duop Reath, Kris Murray, Toumani Camara and the Frenchman Rayan Rupert (3 points and 5 assists for his first start). Or only rookies!

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, reprinted by Associated Pressthis is the 2nd time that a team has presented such a five since the Warriors April 26, 2012. Young Klay Thompson started that night against the Spurs with Charles Jenkins, Chris Wright, Jeremy Tyler and Mickell Gladness in the final game of this lockout-shortened season. Knowing that the league began counting the five during the 1971-1972 season.

Mistakes in the finale

Despite their youth, the Blazers held their own against the reigning champions. Trailing by 15 points in the second quarter, the locals managed to come back to one possession at the start of a very competitive final period between the two teams.

We fought like crazy. It's very important to me: whether we win or lose, we fight until the end. […] We played the way we wanted, we made them deserve (this victory)”, likes Chauncey Billups after the meeting.

The technician, however, regrets what looks like youthful mistakes in the final moments. Like this lost ball to which the Blazers coach refers: four minutes from the end, Scoot Henderson went to penetrate, but lost his leather while visibly trying to pass the ball behind his back (a few seconds earlier, Reggie Jackson had he also cost his team a ball on a walk off…).

In a normal situation, (the rookies) would not have been in this position. It's a way of learning. And I'm sure that when another opportunity presents itself, they will think about this end of the match. I found that we played certain minutes of the fourth quarter as if it were the first », Remarks Billups, whose team has lost its four matches this season against the reigning champions.
