Every four years since entering the professional world, LeBron James is used to winning something. In 2008, it was the Olympic title with Team USA. In 2012, too, with the NBA champion trophy in addition. In 2016 and 2020, he again finished the NBA season with the trophy in his arms.
So, in 2024, while passing through France for the Olympic Games, and even at the age of 39, he was still able to celebrate with a gold medal around his neck.
“It's essential, and that's why I do it. I do it for my family,” he commented after the victory against France in the final on Saturday evening. “My wife takes care of me, she’s the best. Without her, I wouldn’t be in a position to do what I do. I love it. So having my wife, my two sons and my daughter, plus the rest of my family here, that was the most important thing.”
In addition to winning a third gold medal, LeBron James was even voted best player of the competition. “It's an honor. I don't know who votes, but I'm even surprised that they voted for me. But with the medal, which is the most important thing for me, it's pretty cool.”he reacts.
“I can't imagine playing in Los Angeles”
A tournament that will remain one of the most challenging in history. “Basketball is a global sport, everyone loves this sport. We saw it in the two matches against Serbia, or against France. But we also saw competitive teams like Puerto Rico, South Sudan, Australia is always a good team, Germany won the World Cup in 2023”LeBron James lists.
Is winning these Olympic Games in France stronger than those of Beijing 2008 or London 2012? Does Team USA 2024 surpass the former teams that the “King” has known?
“These are the best Games because they are the ones I am living now,” he answers. “The Redeem Team needed to bounce back after a few years where we weren't playing at our best. We played well in 2012 and won in London. We didn't like the performance last summer and we put this team together very quickly. In less than a month, we managed to do that.”
So, will this habit of winning every four years continue? Age doesn't seem to have an impact on LeBron James, so why see him, at home, in Los Angeles in 2028? “I don't imagine playing in Los Angeles. Afterwards, I didn't see myself in Paris, but in four years, I don't see myself there.”he concluded.
