A nightmare evening for Caitlin Clark against Liberty

Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart on one side, Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston on the other. It's difficult to find more media coverage than this double opposition, but the duel between the New York Liberty and the Indiana Fever came to an end. In “back-to-back”, the Fever lost 104-68, and Caitlin Clark had her most complicated evening of the season with only 3 points at 1/10 on shots, including 1/7 from distance, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 interceptions and 3 turnovers. This is simply a record of mediocrity in Caitlin Clark's career, NCAA included.

A complicated performance which was in no way dramatic for her opponent of the day, Sabrina Ionescu.

“Collectively, we were aware of who was leading this team, and we tried to make life difficult for him,” explained Sabrina Ionescu. “Obviously, they were back-to-back, and it was a little tough for them. But they will find solutions, and it's not so bad to have a match like this. »

A difficult start to the season

Against the 2023 finalists, the Fever compiled a sad 37% on shots and 25% on 3-pointers. Which frankly doesn't help win matches, just like Aliyah Boston's ankle injury.

“Their legs were heavy, and it all comes from your legs when you shoot, especially from 3-point range”recalls Christie Sides, the Indiana coach. “They were without energy, so everything was a little short. »

It must be admitted that the Fever was not spoiled by the schedule since Caitlin Clark's teammates played their 11th game of the season last night (including 3 against the Liberty) when the rest of the league played between 6 and 9.

With 2 wins for 9 losses, the Fever are penultimate in the league, just ahead of the Washington Mystics who are still looking for their first success this season.
