A new starting five for the Pacers

The correction against the Magic last Sunday (128-116) left its mark in the Pacers locker room.

For the first time this season, Rick Carlisle decided to remove Obi Toppin and Bennedict Mathurin from the starting five, replaced by Buddy Hield and Aaron Nesmith.

“We thought a little more shooting would help us”simply observed Coach Carlisle in theIndy Star. “Nesmith is at 46% and Hield at 43% in his career. That’s part of our reasoning, although there were other factors as well. But both players responded. On the first two shots of the match, a 3-pointer from one before a 3-pointer from the other. »

Victorious for the Hawks in a match with a river score (157-152 – the biggest score of the season without overtime), with a decisive Buddy Hield (24 points) and even perfect (6 out of 6 at 3-points!), we can to say that Carlisle was right. Likewise, Nesmith (17 points) was very clean.

Try things, take risks…

Result of the races: Indy is quite simply the first qualified, in the East, for the quarter-finals of the NBA tournament.

“If we wanted to have a chance of getting out of our group, we had to try something and take risks. I told Obi and Benn about it in the morning. As expected, the guys weren’t happy to come off the bench, but I explained to them that it was like having seven starters. Anyway, they came back five minutes after the interval. Ben had a little trouble getting going but he was very good in the second half. As for Obi, he’s a more experienced guy, he played like an adult. I’m proud of them and very happy for the team. »
