A new exchange between John Wall and Russell Westbrook? If the Lakers drop a first round of Draft… | NBA

Is the Russell Westbrook experience coming to an end with the Lakers? The former MVP isn’t responsible for all the ills in Los Angeles but his association with LeBron James and Anthony Davis clearly isn’t working.

The problem is that he still has a $47 million “player option” for next season and is therefore very difficult, if not impossible, to transfer, except for a “toxic” contract of the same order… and that’s why the rumor of a new exchange with John Wall is getting stronger and stronger in California.

The Rockets point guard, already traded for Russell Westbrook in December 2020, did not play this season, however, the Houston franchise preferring to develop its young people, and in particular Kevin Porter Jr.

If he kept himself in shape, he could be (a little) more complementary to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, although this eventual trade would not magically solve the “Purple & Gold” problems. Also represented by Kluth Sports, he would perhaps take the pressure off Frank Vogel and his players, who are now forced to respond to criticism on several fronts, between the disappointing results and the use of Russell Westbrook.

But as Marc Stein explains, Houston does not intend to make this exchange for nothing. The Texas club is indeed claiming the first round of the Lakers 2027 Draft to recover Russell Westbrook!

Obviously, Los Angeles isn’t too keen on dropping a new draft pick just to ward off the 2017 MVP, and get their hands on a player who hasn’t stepped on the court in months. Negotiations are therefore blocked, as are those of a “buyout” of John Wall from the Rockets.
