A more precise diagnosis for Onyeka Okongwu

Quin Snyder announced the bad news before the resumption, deploring the absence ultimately longer than expected ofOnyeka Okongwu. Initially, the Hawks interior was expected to return this weekend after injuring his left toe just before the All-Star Break. But his unavailability had been extended until further notice, while the medical staff refined their diagnosis.

On Saturday, Atlanta doctors provided some details via a press release, and Onyeka Okongwu suffers from a sprained left big toe and also from sesamoiditis, which accentuates the pain at the junction of the big toe. A detail which recalls that the Hawks interior had already suffered a stress fracture in the sesamoid bones of his left big toe during his rookie season, in 2020/21.

To relieve pain and avoid pressure, Onyeka Okongwu now wears a protective boot. The medical staff will support him for the next two weeks before delivering a new assessment with a view to a return to play, hoped for before the end of March.

Beaten to the wire by Toronto for the resumption after the All-Star Break despite the return of Clint Capela, the Hawks remain for the moment clinging to 10th place in the East, while Orlando presents itself this evening.
