By integrating the second All-NBA Team, Jaylen Brown added more than 100 million dollars to his bank account.
From “only” 190 million dollars over four years, the offer has thus increased to more than 300 million dollars over five years, in order to allow him to sign the biggest contract in NBA history with the Celtics.
A huge difference related to the conditions of the “Designated Veteran Player Extension” and determined by the votes of the journalists responsible for voting for the three All-NBA Teams. In fact, you could only get these “supermax” contracts if you had been elected MVP in the three years preceding the signing of the contract, or if you had been elected defender of the year, or if you had joined one of of the three All-NBA Teams the season preceding the signing of the contract, or in two of the three previous seasons.
For Jaylen Brown, the votes of the journalists were therefore decisive and Mike Singer, of the Denver Post, reveals to have received a letter from the back / winger of Boston to thank him for his vote in his favor.
Our colleague thus placed the Celtics player in the second five of the season, thus helping him to win his “supermax” extension. In his letter, probably sent to all of them who voted for him, Jaylen Brown therefore thanks him, noting all the same that journalists would probably like not to have such a responsibility. A logic shared by his teammate, Jayson Tatum, not a fan of this voting system either.
