A historic first half for Breanna Stewart

THE New York Liberty is currently off to the best start to a season in its history, recording a 14th victory against the Los Angeles Sparks (98-88) on his first 17 outings!

Behind Dearica Hamby (20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists), the Californians had taken the advantage at the start of the second quarter, but the tandem Sabrina IonescuBreanna Stewart put things back in order.

The first (24 points, 9 assists) showed her vision of the game and her wrist from afar while the second was everywhere (33 points on 12/19 shooting, 7 assists, 6 blocks, 3 interceptions), finishing 3-point or low post actions. She notably scored 19 points in the second quarter alone, to become the first player in WNBA history to punctuate a half with more than 20 points, 5 assists and 5 blocks!

“We let them hang on a little”explains Breanna Stewart. “We had to make sure I had the ball in the post. »

Enough to launch the entire starting five, with 20 points at 6/7 from afar for Kayla Thornton and 14 points, 13 rebounds but also 5 assists Jonquel Jones.

Even without any points (!) from the bench, the New York Liberty quickly regained control of the match, to continue to trail the Connecticut Sun (13 wins – 2 losses) at the top of the league. And this while the club is still awaiting the return to play of Courtney Vandersloot, absent in recent matches following the death of her mother.
