A first learning season for Jaden Ivey

On alternating current during his first year, Jaden Ivey especially marked the spirits by the successful end of his exercise, with 19.3 points and 7.1 assists on average after the All-Star Game. The back of the Pistons therefore hopes to ride on this good momentum.

“The most important thing for me was to learn the mental aspect of things”he explains to The Athletic. “I’m starting to understand it. Its very important. You have to have that advantage. When you look at great players like Chris Paul and LeBron James, they have the talent and they work hard, but they’ve mastered the mental aspect, they think the game. To progress, that mental aspect will be essential. »

Jaden Ivey had already felt during his first season that as the matches progressed he was improving in certain areas. Especially in defense or to lead the game, since Cade Cunningham was quickly injured.

” In effect. I was doing my job and my coaches told me every day that I was progressing on this or that, in attack as in defense. My coaches insisted a lot on this last season. I improved in areas where I was terrible at the start of the season, in defense for example. It’s a proof of my work, and of watching videos. When Cade was around, I had to put the game aside and be ready to shoot. When he was absent, I had to learn to lead, not to always score, to organize the attack. »

His second season in the league will be very different since the first choice of the 2021 Draft will return and Monty Williams will be the new coach of the Pistons. But the former Purdue is keeping an eye in the rear view mirror on the 2022/2023 campaign.

“I think a lot about what I did in my first season, it helps me prepare for what comes next. Last season was tough. I had never known a season with so many defeats. We only won 17 matches. The ups and downs on an individual level, the losses, all that will help for the second year. I can’t wait to start with Monty Williams, to learn from him. I’m going to work all summer in Detroit. »
