After Jrue Holiday against Washington and the Knicks, Donte DiVincenzo against the Kings or Khris Middleton against the Bulls, it was Bobby Portis who was the X factor in the victory of the night acquired in Portland by the Bucks alongside a still imperial Giannis Antetokounmpo (108-137).
Author of 30 points, his record this season, at 11/13 in shooting including 6/8 from 3-pointers, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 interception and 2 blocks in just 24 minutes, the interior pressed Portland almost to him alone with his impressive streaks of efficiency in the second and third quarters.
For a few centimeters, he could even have won a new personal best at 3-point with eight baskets registered, two of them having finally been counted at two points.
” For real ? Pity ! “, he exclaimed after the meeting. “I didn’t even know it, I was just having fun playing, taking my shots through Giannis (Antetokounmpo), Khris (Middleton) and Jrue (Holiday), taking advantage of the spaces they create, playing my role . I took the same shots as the last two weeks, some of which hadn’t come in for two games. But I continued to trust my shooting, my work. I stayed myself. But I would have liked to have had two more 3-pointers. Eight 3-pointers is really something I have to aim for one day.
Bucks driven by thirst for victory
Bobby Portis has indeed benefited from the good performance of the collective with in particular 36 passes out of 49 baskets scored. More generally, the Bucks seem to have found the right fuel for several weeks. And with this great series, Milwaukee finds itself on the heels of the first two in the Eastern Conference, Chicago and Miami.
“Of course, in the position in which we find ourselves, we talk about it”, confirmed Bobby Portis about the Bucks’ ambitions for this end of the regular season. “We have the classification and the quality, so everyone is at the bottom. This is probably the first time that we all feel this sense of urgency about what is happening. We play real basketball, so everyone is on the same page. All we want is to continue this winning streak. We play for each other having fun, like in the good old days and playing basketball which is our trademark.
The hardest part is yet to come for the champions who will continue their “road trip” with a “back-to-back” against the Clippers this evening, a confrontation against the Lakers two days later and then a trip to Phoenix.
