For the past few weeks, we seem to be wondering what's wrong with San Francisco. Is the club a victim of its city's ugly reputation? We might think so.
We know that this has influenced several cases in recent years, including that of Shohei Ohtani. He hasn't said anything against the city, but the Giants feel like there's something keeping him in town.
And that brings us to Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Did the pitcher also put San Francisco aside because of the city's reputation?
After all, a few hours before his arrival in LA was announced, we learned that San Francisco was no longer in the race.
With all the funny information that circulated this winter, we might wonder if it's true that SF was no longer in the race.
Why am I saying that? Because Yamamoto's agent, Joel Wolfe, said his client loves the city of San Francisco, which reminds him of Osaka, Japan.
The agent added that if the Dodgers (his #1 pick) weren't in the picture, there's a “good chance” San Francisco would have been the pitcher's destination.
Again, I say this in the light that San Francisco didn't seem to be among the finalists. And I don't think it's because the club wasn't ready to put money on the table.
So it's either that San Francisco was among the finalists, or because the Nippon agent is putting in more than the client is asking to keep the Giants on his side.
Go find out what's true, at this point.
This will be a topic of discussion until the Giants sign a star to represent their organization.
Note that all this leads us to wonder to what extent the Yankees had chances in the file.
