I’ve never seen Reggie Jackson play, but I know he’s one of the best playoff players in history. Nicknamed “Mr. October,” Jackson won five World Series titles and was twice named World Series MVP.
During his great career, he produced no less than 48 points in 77 playoff games. This is a fairly significant sample.
Over the years, a few people have been given the nickname “Mr. October”, although not necessarily officially. Derek Jeter even became “Mr. November” at one point.
But this time, it was Jackson himself who offered to give the nickname to none other than Astros’ Yordan Alvarez.
Alvarez, since the beginning of the playoffs, terrorizes everyone. He even got intentionally walked with a guy on first base against Seattle.
In series, it is a first since Barry Bonds.
So Jackson likes what he sees of the left-handed hitter and so he wants, like I said, to pass on the playoffs moniker to him.
But Alvarez is a humble guy (or a guy who doesn’t want pressure) and he says Mr Jackson should remember what he did before appointing such a young replacement.
The Astros’ pick hitter acted with class on that one. I like this.
If Alvarez is okay, he’ll help the Astros get to the World Series. Does he have what it takes in the body to do it… and to earn himself such a big nickname?
- Nationals bought by Capitals owner?
- He is not right for IKF.
