Yankees waste Aaron Judge and Gerrit Cole’s best years

In today’s baseball, a window of opportunity to win a championship can close quickly, if not very quickly. Talk to the New York Mets.

We must therefore take advantage of these opportunities to surround the players who make this window of hope open.

And that, the New York Yankees do not seem to have understood.

Indeed, they are downright wasting the best years of their ace pitcher Gerrit Cole, as well as those of their captain Aaron Judge.

It is true that Cole will still have very good seasons during his thirties, as did before him Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander, to name a few.

But in the case of the Judge, nothing is less certain. The latter is likely to find himself on the injured list more often than not and I doubt his batting will be as solid in a few years.

So what is general manager Brian Cashman doing to take advantage of the opportunity he has to have these two star players on hand? Absolutely nothing.

Last year, as Judge put a historic season on the board, Cashman added Frankie Montas, Harrison Bader, Scott Effross, Lou Trivino and Andrew Benintendi. Nothing to write to his mother. And remember that Juan Soto was available.

Result? A four-game sweep against the Houston Astros in the Championship Series.

This season, the Yankees had stayed in the race despite the loss of their captain and several other injuries. So what did Cashman do? Another little snooze, adding only reliever Keynan Middleton. Who cares?

With their pockets already full and the more than $40 million the Yankees will save at the end of this campaign, it’s time for someone to wake up within this organization before it’s too late.
