Yankees offensive woes prompt them to fire batting coach Dillon Lawson

Just before the All-Star break, the New York Yankees lost another game they should have won to the Chicago Cubs, courtesy of Gleyber Torres’ erratic play at second base.

However, it was the batting coach who suffered after the game. Indeed, the Bronx Bombers fired Dillon Lawson as late as late afternoon today (Sunday).

It’s a rather unusual staff movement in the middle of a campaign, but chief executive Brian Cashman persists and signs.

It has been well documented that I have been reluctant in the past to make changes to our coaching staff in the middle of a season. I firmly believe that successes and failures are collective efforts. However, I finally felt that a change was needed and that a new voice overseeing our hitters would give us the best chance to perform as we are capable of.

The Yankees have struggled on offense this season, especially since losing captain Aaron Judge to a toe injury on June 3.

Since then, the Yankees have posted the lowest batting average (.214) and worst on-base attendance percentage (.284) in the league, and they have scored the second fewest runs in all of MLB.

A disaster, as evidenced by their record of 14 wins against 17 losses since the loss of the Judge.

Although Judge’s absence hurt the New York squad, the other sluggers should have taken over, which they didn’t, with the blame falling on Lawson.

The 38-year-old had been in the job since 2022 and ultimately won’t have done the job considering the Yankees’ abrupt end to the playoffs last year and the poor offensive production of New York hitters, with the exception of Judge. , Of course.

The team still hasn’t named a replacement at this time, and it’s unclear whether assistant coaches Casey Dykes and Brad Wilkerson will remain with the team through next Friday.

Is Aaron Boone next on the list?
