New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman does a great job on the second floor, especially when it comes to making trades.
But like everything as a leader, we cannot hit on all our decisions. This was the case, among others, for the signing of Aaron Hicks’ contract and the transaction bringing veteran Josh Donaldson to the Bronx.
For this last personnel movement, it must be mentioned that it finally made it possible to get Gary Sanchez out of New York. Just for that, Donaldson deserves to stay in the striped uniform.
But if the Yankees want to win their first championship since 2009, he must leave, just like Hicks, he who is no longer able to catch a routine ball so much his confidence and returned to another planet.
It is true that Donaldson’s value is not at its peak and releasing him would mean owner Al Steinbrenner having to put his hand in his pocket for no service in return. But precisely, the third baseman no longer serves anyone, except his defense. At this level, DJ LeMahieu can amply get the job done.
Same story for Hicks, who has become more irrelevant than knowing that the shark is the only fish that can blink both eyes at the same time. And with the emergence of Oswaldo Cabrera and Jasson Dominguez in the outfield, the Yankees aren’t in trouble, especially if they sign Harrison Bader to a contract extension.
Would you be comfortable with this alignment? I do.
1 – DJ LeMahieu 3B
2 – Anthony Rizzo 1B
3 – Aaron Judge RF
4 – Giancarlo Stanton DH
5 – Gleyber Torres 2B
6 – Oswaldo Cabrera LF
7 – Harrison Bader CF
8 – Jose Trevino C
9 – Anthony Volpe SS
Bench: Isiah Kiner-Falefa 3B/SS, Oswald Peraza SS/2B, Kyle Higashioka C, Jasson Dominguez OF
And nothing prevents Cashman to make the necessary adjustments at the deadline of the transactions or well before if the need arises.
The Yankees need to stop looking back and instead go for the top honors and it’s not with Donaldson and Hicks that’s going to happen. Young people are ready to take the plunge, all that remains is to trust them.
