After a disastrous season, the New York Yankees are now looking to the future.
And the future is rosy in the Bronx, at least for young prospects. It even brings to mind the 2016 season, when the Baby Bombers were recalled to MLB.
Players who were there at the time, including captain Aaron Judge, see similarities.
We had some good guys coming in 2016 and 2017, but this group of guys that we have, they’re impressive. Their behavior, the way they behave on the pitch, it’s like they’ve been here all year. Guys that young in a tough, noisy environment. It’s pretty cool to see.
It recalls the arrival of Gary Sanchez in 2016, who made a one-game appearance at the start of the season and then was back for good on August 3, just after the Yankees began a fire sale. . A week later, it was the Judge’s turn to take the plunge.
The Bombardiers had then started to find the way to victory and had approached a participation in the playoffs, but in vain. The experience gained had then borne fruit, since the following year, the Yankees won the title of their division.
And it’s a bit the same scenario that occurs in 2023, when New York has won five of its last six games, including two against the Houston Astros.
The Yankees are still below .500 with a record of 67 wins and 69 losses and are still 7½ games away from a playoff spot, but this mini-surge gives hope and changes the mood in the locker room.
Let’s hope for them and their fans that the situation of the second half of the 2010s will be repeated in the next campaigns.
