Yankees: deserted stands to close the season at home

The last week of the regular season has now begun in the MLB. Over the next few days, we will be treated to some big ball action, while many clubs are in the final sprint for a place in the playoffs.

However, for a rare time, the Yankees are not part of the lot. The club is officially eliminated and it is high time for the season to end after a difficult year in the Bronx.

Yesterday, moreover, the club played its last home game, when it hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks (who need to win to ensure their place in the playoffs). In fact, it was Saturday’s match that was resumed, which had been postponed due to the weather.

And for the occasion, the supporters showed up… or not. In fact, the stands were almost entirely deserted for this last home match.

The conditions were not right for a big crowd at the stadium, that said: the weather was not good, the game took place on a Monday afternoon and the Yankees were eliminated from the series.

That said, we agree that it’s shocking to see, at best, a few hundred fans in the stands for a Yankees game in the Bronx. It felt more like a Rays or Athletics home game.

And the comical thing is that the Yankees officially estimated a crowd of 41,096 for this game. The estimate is based on ticket sales for the game scheduled for Saturday (during which bobbleheads to mark Aaron Judge’s 62-homer season were going to be handed out), but I might have revised the number down a bit.

But despite everything, the fans on site were treated to some good ball. The young Oswald Peraza notably hit a 443-foot bomb in the seventh inning, to the delight of the thousands dozens of supporters in the area.

In the end, the Yankees won by a score of 6-4, depriving the Diamondbacks of an important victory.

It’s coming Again tighten the race in the National.

In short, despite the handful (barely) of spectators on site, the Yankees made sure to end their home season on a positive note.

The question now is whether Aaron Boone managed his last game in the Bronx. And if so, dozens of thousands fans will be able to boast of having seen it live.
