Yesterday, Major League Baseball’s four division series took off. The Phillies (against the Braves) and the Astros, in dramatic fashion against the Mariners, won their first game.
And later in the evening, the Yankees and the Dodgers respectively received the visit of the Guardians and the Padres to launch the hostilities of two awaited series.
In New York, Gerrit Cole was on the mound and let’s just say he was the ace the club needed. Despite a rocky start, Cole managed to pitch 6.1 innings and strike out eight guys.
He gave the Guardians just one point, who don’t have the toughest offense in MLB but are still capable of winning games.
Besides a homer from Anthony Rizzo, it was support players who made the difference in a 4-1 victory. Harrison Bader hit a long ball and Jose Trevino drove in a run.
Aaron Judge walked one, but it was struck out three times.
Steven Kwan homered for Cleveland, but if the club wants to win against the Yankees, it’s going to take more than a run a game.
In Los Angeles, the Dodgers (14-5 this season against the Padres) continued to have Mike Clevinger’s number. They kicked him out after less than three innings in the field.
The relief of San Diego did not give any hits, but the evil was since Mike Clevinger gave five runs (including four earned) to his opponents.
In a 5-3 loss, it does not forgive.
Today, the clubs of the National will be in action. There will be a game in Atlanta (4:35 p.m.) and one in Los Angeles (8:37 p.m.) on the menu.
And Thursday, it will be the clubs of the American who will have air time.
