When a club wins a World Series, rings are distributed to several people. Obviously, the players have them, as do the staff members.
But besides the obvious names, who will get a ring? On each side, in Texas and Arizona, there is at least one big pitcher who hasn’t pitched since April who will have one.
Both are great pitchers, but 2023 has not been their year.
The first? Jacob deGrom. The Rangers pitcher underwent Tommy John surgery this year and his 2024 season is even in jeopardy. He, for sure, will have a ring.
Remember that last winter, he left New York to join the Rangers. He did well before he got injured, which is the story of his career.
He is a good teammate and operations like this happen. He therefore deserves his ring a little more than the pitcher on the other side who is in the same category.
Because yes, Madison Bumgarner started her fourth season with the DBacks. His poor performance and stubborn refusal to adapt cost him his job.
But he’s still eligible for a ring. And logically, he should have one if Arizona ends up winning the World Series this year.
I don’t know about you, but if I had to choose between the two, I’d rather see deGrom win his first ring than have MadBum add to his extensive collection of three rings.
And in fact, I don’t know if Bumgarner would be if disappointed to see Rangers win. After all, that would mean that Bruce Bochy, whom he respects to the highest degree, would have won (again).
