In just a few hours we will see the World Series take off. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you to consult our “2023 Series” section for texts on the subject. We included our predictions and set the table for the series.
All this to say that if everything was evaluated on the sidelines of the big fall dance, we can still say a word about the players’ experience in the World Series.
I say players because I know Bruce Bochy is in a class of his own.
When you look at the Diamondbacks, you realize that no current player has a World Series ring. The only two players who have already played are Evan Longoria and Ryan Thompson.
Both did it with the Rays. The first was there in 2008 and he played five games. The sophomore did it in 2020 and he pitched in relief three times.
At Rangers, there is more experience. Max Scherzer, for example, is in his third appearance in the World Series. He pitched once in 2012 (Tigers) and twice in 2019, with the Nationals.
He has a ring in 2019.
Nathan Eovaldi, the starter tonight, will be making his first World Series start, but he has appeared three times in relief.
His long outing of over six innings in relief in Game #3 was important in the 2018 title.
The case of reliever Will Smith is interesting. The reliever is making his third appearance in the World Series in a row… and he has two rings. No one else on the Rangers has two rings.
Among the players, obviously. #BruceBochy
Smith pitched four times without giving up an earned run with the 2021 Braves, but he did not pitch in the World Series for the 2022 Astros. He has a 0.00 ERA in the World Series…
We will remember that in 2016, the Yankees sent Aroldis Chapman to Chicago. He pitched five times in the World Series that year and without him, the Cubs weren’t winning.
And finally, Mr. Experience himself, Corey Seager, has 13 games under his belt with the Dodgers. In 2017, he lost to the Astros in seven games.
But in 2020, he was named the World Series MVP. He played six games.
Remember that in 2018, he was injured and did not finish the season – Manny Machado replaced him. However, he was with the Dodgers, who lost to Nathan Eovaldi and the Red Sox.
He is experienced, therefore.
- Speaking of the wolf. His leadership is important.
- Bruce Bochy is happy to be there.
