Mexico is certainly not used to long runs at the World Baseball Classic. In a fairly supportive group, things could change in 2023 for the roster which will surely be spectacular to watch.
The Mexican formation has in its ranks a good mix between players from the MLB, the NPB (Japan), as well as its local league.
The names of Alex Verdugo, Randy Arozarena and Rowdy Tellez certainly echo. The teammates of the latter, Isaac Paredes, Jonathan Aranda and Luis Urías will also be part of the adventure. Without forgetting the representative of the Toronto Blue Jays, receiver Alejandro Kirk. He will be assisted by Austin Barnes at the number two position.
One can immediately notice the depth in the infield, most of the squad being able to evolve in all positions.
Here’s what Mexico’s starting lineup will look like:
- Randy Arozarena LF
- Luis Urias SS
- Alex Verdugo RF
- Alejandro Kirk C.
- Rowdy Tellez DH
- Joey Meneses 1B
- Isaac Paredes 3B
- Alek Thomas CF
- Jonathan Aranda 2B
On the mound side, Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías will lead the way, followed by Patrick Sandoval. Subsequently, Taijuan Walker, Luis Cessa and Jose Urquidy could prove to be good hidden cards.
It will be difficult for Mexico to achieve top honors, but we expect a good progression that could place them among the eight best formations of the Classic.
