World Classic in 2026: Rob Manfred confirms the event will be held

As you know, the 2023 World Baseball Classic is a success. It’s coming to an end and frankly, it’s been an amazing sight.

Compared to 2017, the previous edition, the enthusiasm was there. There was suspense until the end, the best players were present and dominant, the ratings were extraordinary, etc.

In short, everyone liked it. Except maybe those who blamed the Classic for Edwin Diaz’s injury…

And now Rob Manfred has confirmed that in 2026 there will be another World Classic. This will be the sixth edition after 2006, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2023.

This is not exactly breaking news since the collective agreement is clear: a Classic is planned for 2026.

Having said that, it is good to hear the commissioner confirm it again. With the success of the 2023 edition, it makes you want to see such a major event again.

And already, there are guys who want to participate.

Taijuan Walker, who is not there this year, is of the number. The same goes for Francisco Lindor, who proudly represented the Puerto Ricans in 2023.

From a Canadian perspective, it will be interesting to see the club in three years. After all, there were many youngsters at the club and in three years they will have more experience.

And as Canada held its own in 2023…

Imagine if, in three years, a launcher dial is also present at the Classic. This would make it even easier to popularize the sport to many supporters.

And that is worth gold.

  • A few rules will be adjusted by the start of the season.
