This morning, Ben Nicholson-Smith published a paper on the Sportsnet site. There is a reflection that is quite interesting in view of the deadline, which is set in six weeks.
Which? Bad teams have an advantage in selling quickly.
A bad team (the Royals, Tigers, White Sox, A’s, Nationals, Cardinals and Rockies, among others) might not only improve their chances of having a good shot at the draft lottery, but it’s more than that.
It’s that with the expanded series, everyone – or almost – can aspire to the series right now. This will not necessarily be the case in a few weeks.
Right now the Cards don’t want to sell and the A’s have nothing to sell. So there are few sellers and many teams who want to buy.
But in a month it will be different. More teams will have given up and this will cause the market to no longer be so intensely in favor of the sellers.
Currently, the team I watch the most is Kansas City. There is no playoff hope there and the club have several assets in the bullpen, including Aroldis Chapman.
The White Sox, if they decide to sell their rental players, will be interesting.
