with a new contract, Xander Bogaerts would agree to change position

Carlos Correa’s file is curious. After all, he’s a great player, but multiple teams don’t want to pay that much for one guy. This therefore reduces the size of its market.

A team that comes up often is Boston. The Red Sox might have the money to sign him, but…

But it is not in the habits of the house to spend so much. Marcelo Mayer pushes. Xander Bogaerts is there.

There are many reasons to believe that Correa could simply sign elsewhere. But in reality, if Boston has the best deal on the table, he might be tempted to join Alex Cora in a big deal to try to win again.

But in such a case, what to do with Xander Bogaerts? Recall that the Red Sox shortstop has an exit option in a year and that he wants to use it not to leave, but to afford a bigger paycheck in Boston.

According to Ken Rosenthal, Bogaerts would not be closed to the idea of changing positions, subject to a lucrative contract extension.

Recall that Marcus Semien had the same thought, telling himself that if he was paid as a shortstop, he was ready to play at second base. Results? The Rangers gave him $175 million to play second base.

The problem, according to Rosenthal? If the Red Sox sign Correa, there will be little time left in training camp to have Bogaerts get used to a new position. Already that the camp will be shortened…

But if, at the same time, Boston can organize to sign Correa and agree on the terms of a new contract for Bogaerts at second base, it could be done.

And you know what? Scott Boras is the agent for both players. Chaim Bloom could therefore establish a fairly clear plan with one man (the one and only Boras) to increase the chances of success of such a project.

It is said that Boras might want to do like in Texas with Semien and Corey Seager: create a fiery duo – at great cost – to turn double-play balls.

And if Bogaerts, who is not the best defensively and would be willing to change positions, wants it as much as Correa and the Sox, it could be done.
