This afternoon, Wandy Peralta took to the mound for the game between the Pirates and the Yankees. And clearly, the guy said to himself that it was 2023 and that he had to be a pitcher of his time.
What did he do? He struck out a batter in 20 seconds.
Basically, his first pitch was a strike. He, 10 seconds later, threw another hold. And finally, another 10 seconds later, he finished off his opponent.
Remember that several launchers, in 2022, did not launch in 20 seconds. He finished the job in this record time.
The goals may have been empty, but still: it’s fast.
I really like the dial and even if this example is intense, it shows that ultimately everyone will eventually pick up the pace.
But since we are well and truly in 2023, I have another example for you.
There was so little noise at Tropicana Field (the Rays practice there because their spring stadium is in bad shape) that the sound of the catcher’s PitchCom was heard by the batter.
And that, the launcher did not know.
These are situations that did not exist before and it makes baseball different. However, it had to happen to attract people.
