Yesterday, a big story fell on the sports world: Wander Franco was the target of allegations from an underage girl, claiming that they were in a relationship.
The shortstop player did not play yesterday.
Even though Kevin Cash announced that it was simply a day off (the day the club gave out caps bearing his likeness… to young people aged 14 and under), we know that the club takes it seriously.
He (obviously) didn’t speak to reporters after the game.
The Tampa Bay Rays therefore have a hot potato in their hands. Should Franco be suspended or not while MLB investigates him?
Should he just be sidelined temporarily?
What we do know is that according to Jeff Passan, the club made the decision not to bring him to San Francisco to face the Giants there.
It’s probably to give yourself time to make the right decision, which is fine.
By then, he could be placed on the restrictive list or on that of administrative absences. If so, he may or may not be paid during the investigation: that remains to be seen.
The Rays have not commented on the Jeff Passan news. It’s no surprise either: the club need to have more details before speaking.
Franco, who was dropped earlier this year for being “a bad teammate” in the eyes of his bosses, signed an 11-year, $182 million contract a year and a half ago.
It’s a horrible situation for everyone involved. Let’s hope the right decision is made under the circumstances.
- Eight straight wins for the Dodgers.
- Jackson Holliday (Orioles) isn’t by chance MLB’s top prospect.
- The Yankees are virtually incapable of winning a series.
