I don’t know if you saw this, but the Dodgers are interested in getting their hands on Shohei Ohtani. Yes, yes: it’s new.
Farce aside, we know that the Dodgers have been the favorites for over a year to sign the Nippon. The Dodgers check all the boxes for Ohtani.
The club has money and would like to move to the next level. But to do this, Hector Gomez thinks that in addition to Shohei Ohtani, it could also go through Mike Trout.
The journalist (who really isn’t always right…) says, according to his sources, that the Dodgers will be aggressive in signing Ohtani and uprooting his friend Mike Trout to bring him to the other side of town.
I’ve seen a lot of people talking about it on Twitter over the last 24 hours. We see alignments made with Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Trout and Ohtani.
And even if it would be exceptional, I don’t believe it.
I believe Ohtani can sign there, but I don’t see Trout asking to be traded to the Dodgers. And above all, I don’t see the club giving its best hopes for Trout.
The center fielder will earn more than $200 million for the next seven seasons. He increasingly needs to play as a DH, which would be difficult with Ohtani in town.
Would the Dodgers want to pay that much (in money and prospects) for a damn good player… but for a guy who doesn’t fill a need that much?
And here, I’m not talking about injuries.
I know that James Outman can play on the left. I know Mookie Betts can go to second base if needed. There is a way to average.
But I do not believe it. I don’t see why the Dodgers would do that, honestly. It would start to make a lot of money for a guy who is injured… and who doesn’t have much playoff experience.
If a club wants to get Mike Trout (and the latter wants to leave Anaheim), I think the Phillies have a better chance in the file.
Moreover, the Dodgers, if they have to put so much money on two guys, will above all ensure that one of them can pitch in 2024, in order to fill the club’s big gap.
