Often teams don’t like to see their young gems going to play games in a winter league. Why? Because there are risks of injury.
That said, young players from Latin America often like to play in front of their own. That’s why, for example, the Braves gave Ronald Acuna Jr. the right to play a few games in recent weeks.
And obviously, the Blue Jays gave the same right to Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
According to Hector Gomez, Vladdy will make his debut on Wednesday with Leones del Escogido, a club which notably includes Otto Lopez.
As the regular season will end on Saturday, he won’t have time to play much. It is obviously for his own pleasure (and to keep the hand) that he does it.
This is the third time he will play with them. The last time was after the 2020 season and it was notably a way of practicing at third base, he who then wanted to demonstrate that he could return there after being transferred to first base during the short season.
But there, he is not in the same state of mind. What he wants above all is to be able to find his level of play of 2021… but he will do it at first base.
I can’t wait to see if he can demolish bullets to excess.
