Vladimir Guerrero Jr. may not have had the 2022 season of his dreams, but he was still very good. He had some rough spots, but he knew how to recover.
Besides his homers (32), we can’t say that his 97 RBI or his OPS+ of 132 are huge disappointments, honestly.
And that’s why he was voted by the Association of Baseball Journalists as the position player of the year for the Blue Jays.
This is what has just been announced, but he is not the only player to have been rewarded. Unanimously, Alek Manoah was voted pitcher of the year, which is logical.
Ross Stripling, who is currently a free agent, was awarded the title of most improved player in the group following his good progress.
Again, hard to argue against.
The title of the one who showed the most team spirit was split in two. First, Buck Martinez (who beat cancer) was chosen. Then, Mark Mudzinski, who tragically lost his daughter this summer, was also recognized.
The two men finished the season in their respective roles as commentator and coach at the club’s first base.
- Will the Jays go for a pitcher?
- Replacing Teoscar Hernandez: everything is on the table.
