Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is disappointed to see Teoscar Hernandez and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. elsewhere

The Toronto Blue Jays have decided to transform their outfield this winter. As you know, Kevin Kiermaier and Daulton Varsho came in and, by the way, guys like Teoscar Hernandez and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. left.

We know that offensively, the club loses. Benefits? Bringing left-handed sticks, having more than a year before freelance – for Varsho – and ensuring better defensive play.

Questioned on the subject by journalists, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is aware that this season, his club will be better defensively. That, he has no doubt.

But still: Vladdy still can’t help but find it a shame to see two of his good friends leaving the Queen City.

That’s what it is, said the first baseman… and you still feel a lot of disappointment in his tone. He knows the dynamic will be different this year, but he wants to win.

Especially against the Yankees…

That’s also why he’s physically stronger than he was. He also says he is more flexible than he was, which will help him for the rest of things.

But above all, we feel that he wants to have fun. We know that he is good at making the sport fun and he will do it with his team, which he describes as complete.

And right now, he seems to be having fun.

These days, he’s in Toronto on the sidelines of the Blue Jays’ winter tour. Last week the guys were in Vancouver and now they are in Toronto. And yesterday, Vladdy was at the Maple Leafs game.

He will also have fun playing for the Dominican Republic in the next World Baseball Classic. He confirmed it.

But I imagine he would play more freely if he had a long-term contract extension in his pocket. On the other hand, the Jays have not approached him yet this winter to talk about it.

He has his contract for 2023 in his pocket ($14.5 million), but that’s it.

Vladdy said it again: he’s open to a long-term signing to continue playing in Toronto for the rest of his career. I don’t know what the club expects, but management must have their reasons.

  • Interesting dossier on Montreal’s candidacy as part of a potential expansion.
  • The Marlins love Brett Baty. Do they still want it now that Luis Arraez is in town?
  • Mike Trout’s back is fine.
  • Jordan Romano is excited.
  • Anthony Kay was DFA by the Cubs.
