In the early afternoon, there were rumors sending Justin Turner to the Boston Red Sox. Was this going to happen?
Obviously, it happened. Turner signed a two-year contract worth a total of $22 million, which works out to $11 million per campaign.
The 38-year-old will be given an exit option after the first year.
Interestingly, JD Martinez, on the other hand, took the opposite route last night when he opted to sign with the Dodgers. Who made the best decision?
But Martinez is a guy who has to play DH almost every day. Turner, on the other hand, is in a different situation: he needs his turns at bat as a DH, but he can still play very well as third base.
I expect the Red Sox, who recently released Eric Hosmer, to play him primarily as a DH, but he’ll also fill in at third and (mostly) first base. This may help Rafael Devers focus even more on his stick if needed.
His departure from LA officially turns a page at the Dodgers, he who was a leader of the club. He won the World Series and guided the guys for almost a decade.
However, he is not the only one to have left recently.
Alex Verdugo, Kiké Hernandez and Kenkey Jansen are all former teammates he will have the chance to find on the side of Boston.
He will be an important asset for the Sox, who will need more to compete in the fierce American League East Division.
