I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: If I was in charge of an MLB team, I wouldn’t sign Trevor Bauer. And this, even if in 2023, he will ask for the minimum wage only. The Dodgers will insure the rest of his contract if he signs elsewhere.
But a team that signs him will have to live with the repercussions of such a decision.
Take the case of Mitch Miller in the NHL. The youngster, who was blacklisted by the NHL due to his past as a bully, was signed by the Bruins…but he was soon released.
Why? Due to popular pressure.
The way I see it, I feel Trevor Bauer’s case would be even more intense. Why? Due to the scope of his name, but also due to the fact that he was still basically suspended for two years for what he did.
When your suspension is reduced to “only” 194 games, you have done something really serious in life.
A team that would try to sign him would therefore have to live with popular pressure which is simply enormous.
But if there’s one player (and I’m only talking about the player here, not the man) who is worth it, it’s Bauer. After all, the last time he pitched on a regular basis, he was the best (or among the best, at least) in his profession.
That’s why I tell myself that a team may want to try to take a chance. I find it hard to believe (it is said that he would not be repentant enough or coachable to succeed in returning), but it only takes one club.
We know that already, several teams seem to make it clear that it will not happen. The Padres, for example, aren’t interested. Neither have the GuardiansBesides.
What if it was the Houston Astros? After all, we are talking about the organization that acquired Roberto Osuna in time.
The question began to arise regarding the launcher.
Trevor Plouffe, a former Twins, sees Bauer coming back somewhere and he believes the Houston club could be tempted to replace Justin Verlander cheaply and, as mentioned, because it’s been seen before.
Life in Texas is different and Roberto Osuna’s gesture was not seen by all Astros fans in the same way as in Ontario. Would it be the same if Bauer signed there?
Obviously, it must be remembered that the Osuna adventure ended badly because the organization had badly managed its arrival at the media level… and it must be remembered that the management also changed completely following the signal theft scandal. .
So I have, once again, a hard time believing the theory of the former Twins. But you know it: it only takes one club…
- Corey Dickerson in Washington.
- Juan Soto helps his little brother.
- Yes, Trea Turner is good.
