Top-10 best shortstop players: Corey Seager takes the lead

After listing the ten best starting pitchers and catchers, it was the turn of the shortstops to see their top 10 revealed by MLB Network, as part of its annual tradition.

As we can see, Corey Seager of the Texas Rangers grabs the top spot after winning his second Manfred Tour championship and second World Series MVP trophy in 2023.

The one who occupied the first rung of last year's list, Trea Turner of the Philadelphia Phillies, fell to fifth place after an up-and-down first season in the City of Brotherly Love.

For his part, Francisco Lindor jumped three places to second place, having not only hit 20 or more home runs every season since his arrival with the New York Mets, but who continues to be a magician defensively. Not to mention his leadership, which is also a big part of his game.

Dansby Swanson, meanwhile, slipped into the top-5, while three newcomers appeared in this ranking, including the young star of the Kansas City Royals, Bobby Witt Jr.

Among the Toronto Blue Jays, Bo Bichette is ranked sixth, a jump of one place compared to the last list.

Experts draw on past player performance, a number of offensive and defensive metrics, advanced statistics and traditional data, as well as analysis from the network's research team.

MLB Network will continue its overview starting January 16, when right fielders will be analyzed. It will then be the turn of the second cushion and first base players in the following two days.

We will then have to wait until January 24 to see what happens next.

  • Reminder: Danny Jansen will be a free agent in a year.
